Fair Work Update: Employee Deduction Rules

Fair Work have enacted new rules relating to the deductions that you make from Employees pay. The new rules apply for deductions made after 30 December 2023.

Key Points:

  • All deductions require written authorisation by the employee
  • This applies to one-off or recurring deductions.
  • Changes to deductions amounts will require a new authorisation in writing from the employee.

Notes

  • Awards and agreements may allow deductions in certain circumstances.
  • Child support and Garnishee orders are exempt as these are legal requirements
